The Apple iPhone 17 Pro may join the iPad Pro and Mac in having an anti-reflective display.
A reliable source told MacRumors that Apple suppliers succeeded in achieving sufficient yield on the anti-reflective glass to support mass production for the iPhone 17 Pro. Apple reportedly wanted to introduce this feature last year, but had issues with the anti-reflective coating process, and therefore decided against including it in last year’s phones.
The anti-reflective display is also said to be more scratch-resistant than the Ceramic Shield on the iPhone 16 models. The Ceramic Shield glass is stated to be 50% tougher than its predecessor and 2x tougher than “glass found in any other smartphone.”
Apple currently offers a nano-texture display glass option for selected iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and iMac models. The nano-texture display is designed to scatter ambient light, resulting in less glare and reflection.
We experienced an iPad Pro (M4) with the nano-texture display at the launch event, and found that although it effectively reduced glare and reflection, it came at the cost of reduced sharpness and contrast.
