An enhanced Siri could be part of the list of generative AI features that Apple plans to announce later this year.
Apple confirms it will be making AI-related announcements later this year.
Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed during the quarterly earnings call that the company is "excited to share the details" of its ongoing work in AI later this year. Cook also said that Apple will "continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort" in AI.
Cook's latest remarks are likely to silence critics and dispel rumours that Apple is falling behind its competitors in the AI space, especially after the recent launch of Samsung's Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 series.
One of these AI-related announcements could be a preview of an enhanced Siri with generative AI at WWDC 2024. Tech news aggregator account yeux1122 released a report last month detailing how Apple managed to integrate generative AI into Siri with the Ajax framework for large language models.
Another likely announcement is an AI-powered health coaching service for the Apple Watch. Data collected from the Apple Watch is used by the AI to motivate users to exercise, eat better and sleep better.
There have been reports of Apple intensifying efforts and making progress in the AI space. The New York Times reported that Apple is exploring partnerships with major news publishers to train its generative AI services on their news content. The iPhone maker is estimated to spend US$4.75 billion this year on AI server purchases while using Foxconn servers to test its AI services.
