Apple reportedly using Foxconn servers to test AI services

Foxconn is said to be the exclusive supplier of servers for Apple to train and test the latter's AI services.

Apple is reportedly sourcing servers from Foxconn to train and test its AI services.

According to a report by Taiwan's Economic Daily News, Foxconn will "exclusively" supply made-in-Vietnam servers for Apple to train and test its AI services. Foxconn servers are also used in Apple's data centres. The report added that Foxconn is also currently supplying servers to Amazon, OpenAI, and NVIDIA.

Bloomberg claimed last month that Apple is testing a ChatGPT-like tool and other generative AI tech, but there is "no clear strategy" from the iPhone maker to release AI-based technology to consumers.

An earlier report in April suggests that an AI-powered health coaching service is in the pipeline for Apple Watch users.

Separately, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company sees "AI and machine learning as core fundamental technologies that are integral" to every Apple product.

Even so, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple is still "significantly behind its competitors" in terms of generative AI.

However, he does not expect Apple to integrate AI edge computing and hardware products even in 2024, which corroborates with Bloomberg's report that there's "no clear strategy" from the company insofar as where generative AI is concerned.

As it stands, it's clear that Apple appears to be working diligently in the background as it figures out how best to integrate generative AI into its products in meaningful ways.
