Apple might show off an enhanced version of Siri with generative AI at WWDC 2024.
Tech news aggregator account yeux1122 shared on Naver that Apple recently managed to integrate generative AI into Siri with the Ajax framework for large language models.
Bloomberg first reported on the Ajax framework in July 2023 where it claims that the framework is built on Google's Jax machine learning framework on Google Cloud.
The enhanced version of Siri with generative AI is reportedly able to offer natural conversation capabilities and deeper user personalisation. In addition, this version of Siri could be related to the upcoming Siri-based Shortcuts features in iOS 18.
What's interesting about this new version of Siri is that it might integrate with third-party services via API. While it is likely that Siri will be supported across Apple's devices and services, the availability of certain AI features may vary across the different subscription services.
Aside from the enhanced Siri, Apple is rumoured to be exploring partnerships with major news publishers to train its generative AI services using their news content.
On the hardware front, Apple might upgrade the mics on the iPhone 16 so that it can better pick up the user's voice and improve the accuracy of dictation and Siri's voice commands.
The iPhone maker is estimated to spend US$4.75 billion this year on AI server purchases, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims it would take some time for Apple to launch a generative AI product or service. Apple might lay the groundwork with the preview of the new Siri with generative AI at WWDC 2024 later this year.
