Apple's more affordable Vision headset could launch as early as next year.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that the cheaper Vision headset would have a less powerful processor and lower-grade materials. The EyeSight feature is also likely to be dropped to cut costs.

Apple is said to price its entry-level Vision headset at around US$2,000 (~S$2,610), and expects sales to be double of the current model.

This is a revision from inital price estimates of between US$1,500 and US$2,500. Although the lower-end model has a significantly lower price tag, it's still not what most people would call affordable.

The current Vision Pro, which starts from S$5,299, is powered by the M2 chip and sports higher-resolution OLED panels. In addition, there are more than a dozen cameras and sensors on the Vision Pro to detect hand gestures and deliver an immersive mixed-reality experience. Gurman previously shared that the lower-end Vision could be tethered to an iPhone or Mac so that performance and component costs could be lower. He also thinks that the upcoming model will use fewer cameras and sensors.

TheElec suggested in a July report that Apple could lower the costs of the lower-end model by using bigger, lower-resolution displays. The publication recently mentioned that the display panel could be made of glass instead of silicon to reduce development and manufacturing costs.
