Despite lacklustre sales of the Vision Pro, Apple is still working on at least three augmented reality devices which include a second-generation Vision Pro, a more affordable version, and a pair of smart glasses.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says Apple is on track to ship a cheaper Vision Pro as early as next year. Gurman wrote in October last year that Apple might cut costs for the development of the cheaper Vision Pro model by using fewer cameras and sensors, a less powerful processor, lower quality screens, and dropping the EyeSight feature.
In June this year, Gurman projected that the cheaper Vision Pro model could cost between US$1,500 and US$2,500. Although that's considerably lower than the Vision Pro's US$3,499 launch price, it could still be too high for most people.
The second-generation Apple Vision Pro model is also said to be in development. However, the timeline of this model is said to be hazy at the moment. Apple is reportedly trying to make the second-generation model smaller and lighter in response to customers' feedback.
As for the smart glasses, Apple is reportedly still in the experimental stage and exploring concepts similar to the Ray-Ban | Meta Smart Glasses. Since significant technical challenges exist in making true augmented reality glasses, Gurman believes it will be years before Apple brings them to market.
