Apple may not release an affordable version of the Vision Pro next year.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the production of the cheaper Vision Pro has been pushed back "beyond 2027 for a while now", adding that the only new Vision Pro release in 2025 might be an updated version of the current model with the M5 chip.
Bloomberg reported in August that Apple is on track to ship a cheaper Vision Pro as early as next year. To lower the costs of the device, Apple is believed to use fewer cameras and sensors, a less powerful processor, lower-quality displays, and drop the EyeSight feature.
The more affordable version of the Vision Pro is rumoured to have a starting price of around US$2,000 (~S$2,610) – that's considerably lower than the US$3,499 price of the current Vision Pro.
Kuo believes the launch delay of the cheaper Vision Pro is due to the lack of meaningful use cases. He compared the Vision Pro situation to that of the HomePod mini where Apple's smart home speakers failed to take off despite having a cheaper model.
Apple is likely delaying the launch to develop relevant use cases of the Vision Pro for mainstream consumers and waiting for component costs to drop further as technologies mature.
