Even after releasing three variants of its G4 flagship smartphone, LG continues to tease us about its second flagship phone for this year.

According to ETNews, LG CEO Cho Jun-ho revealed during the company's quarterly results press conference that consumers can expect to see a "super premium phone" later this year. Apparently, it was reported that the G4 flagship smartphone fell short of expectations and LG is looking to claw back lost ground by focusing on premium phones with bigger displays and more advanced features.

Eason Shao, director of LG Taiwan's mobile department shared in May that the upcoming flagship smartphone will be positioned "above the G series". A month later, ETNews reported that the flagship smartphone is likely to be the G4 Pro which will come with a metal design although a separate report earlier this month claims that the device will be the 6-inch G Pro 3 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera and a fingerprint sensor.

The end of the year should see the launch of new flagship smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Apple iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and Sony's Xperia Z5 and its variants. It remains to be seen if LG's "super premium phone" is able to outshine the competition.
