Will LG release a metal variant of the G4 later this year?

The G4 series will have a new metal-clad member by the end of the year if rumors are to be believed.

According to Korean publication ET News, the metal-clad smartphone is likely to be called the G4 Pro and the deliberate use of metal will help differentiate the G4 Pro from its plastic or leather-back G4 flagship model. However, some LG employees reportedly preferred the company to use metal on "niche models" as an experiment.

Sources told ZDNet Korea in March 2015 that LG was facing issues in costs and manufacturing processes which resulted in the G4 not coming with a metal design. If LG really wants to offer the metal-clad G4 Pro, profitability may take a hit as manufacturing costs will be higher.

Whether or not the G4 Pro will eventually come with a metal design, LG is very likely to introduce a second flagship smartphone later this year. Eason Shao, director of LG Taiwan's mobile department revealed that the second flagship smartphone will be positioned "above the G Series".
