9to5Mac has learnt from its sources that Apple plans to bring more features to the table for the Apple Watch Series 10 than just a bigger screen, thinner case and sleep apnea detection.

The more significant feature of the lot is an upgraded ECG/heart rate sensor. Users can look forward to new insights and more accurate results from the new sensor.

Since the Apple Watch is credited for saving the lives of users by alerting them to underlying medical issues which they were not aware of thanks to its accurate heart sensor, an upgraded ECG/heart sensor will continue to generate more life-saving stories in the near future.

The new ECG/heart rate sensor will also work together with new algorithms in the Health app to process data on the iPhone to monitor for atrial fibrillation. Currently, the data processing occurs on the Apple Watch.

Apple is introducing new watch faces to take advantage of the bigger screens on the Apple Watch Series 10. One of the new watch faces is believed to be "Reflections" and it can respond to ambient light.

For sailing sports enthusiasts, there could be a new "Regatta" watch face that allows them to start a timer right on the screen.

The Apple Watch Series 10 will also get improved water resistance. While the Apple Watch Series 9 is not recommended for underwater activities such as scuba diving, the Apple Watch Series 10 is stated to be certified for high-speed water sports up to 20m deep. It will also get the Apple's Depth app, which is exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra models.

Apple has scheduled an event on 9 September (10 September, 1am Singapore Time) where it is expected to unveil the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and new AirPods.
