Aside from a rumoured thinner chassis and a larger display, the Apple Watch Series 10 could launch with one highly anticipated health monitoring feature - sleep apnea detection.

Bloomberg reports that sleep apnea detection is likely to be the headline feature for the new Apple Watch models at the 9 September event

Based on a November 2023 report, Apple will use sleep and breathing patterns to predict whether a user has the condition and will prompt the user to seek proper medical diagnosis.

Sleep apnea is a medical condition that can cause someone to stop breathing during sleep. This can happen because the airway is blocked or the brain is not correctly controlling the breathing. According to some experts, sleep apnea affects about 5% to 10% of people worldwide.

While sleep apnea detection is likely to be announced during the event, Bloomberg says the feature may not be available at launch and could be enabled via a future software update.

The introduction of sleep apnea detection was initially said to be put on hold due to the ongoing legal issue with Masimo Corp. Now, it seems that Apple managed to get out of the sticky situation at the last minute.

Blood pressure monitoring was reportedly also planned for this year, but Apple had to delay it as the technology wasn't as reliable as the company had expected it to be. Bloomberg states that it is "no longer on the cards for an immediate release".
