Apple's own 5G modem chip could launch next year according to Qualcomm
Apple might debut its own 5G modem chip in 2024.
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed at the MWC 2023 conference that he expects Apple to roll out its own 5G modem in 2024. Amon added that Qualcomm is available if and when Apple needs its Snapdragon modems.
Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala shared last year that the company expects to "have the vast majority of share of 5G modems for the 2023 iPhone launch." Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu claimed in October 2022 that Apple's 5G modem chip might not arrive until 2025.
Apple reportedly ran into development and legal issues while developing the 5G modem chip. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reversed his prediction and says Apple has "restarted" work on a 4th-generation iPhone SE with an in-house 5G chip.
