Microsoft has joined with other device manufacturers to release its Copilot+ PC’s, the Surface and Surface Pro notebooks. These are now available for pre-order ahead of general availability on 6 August.
Copilot+ PC refers to devices that are ARM powered and are optimised to run AI workloads locally with better performance.
They are currently using the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor that has 12 cores, and also come with the Qualcomm Oryon CPU for its performance and battery efficiency, and an integrated Qualcomm Adreno GPU for graphics.
Microsoft claims that Copilot+ devices will be capable of delivering 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), all–day battery life, and have access to the most advanced AI models that can be processed on the device.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen Copilot PCs from vendors like ASUS and Acer have arrived. Finally, it is the turn of Microsoft with its launch of the new Surface Pro and Surface laptop.

Powered by either a Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors, the Surface Pro (11th edition) also comes with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of storage. It also supports up to three external 4K displays, with two USB-C ports, and a 13-inch display with optional OLED with HDR technology, a 3:2 aspect ratio, and connectivity options of Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G.
It also has security provided by Microsoft Pluton. This is Microsoft’s chip-to-cloud security technology built with Zero Trust principles at the core providing secure identity, secure attestation, and cryptographic services. Pluton technology is a combination of a secure subsystem, which is part of the System on Chip (SoC) and Microsoft authored software that runs on this integrated secure subsystem.
It comes with an ultra-wide, quad-HD front-facing camera with Automatic Framing so you remain in focus, even as you move around. There is also a 10MP Ultra HD rear-facing autofocus camera with 4K support capture and edit a video on one device.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 7

Available in 13.8-inch and 15-inch versions and in Platinum, Black, Sapphire and Dune, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 comes with PixelSense-enabled touchscreen display with barely there bezels. With 120Hz refresh rate, HDR technology, Dolby Vision IQ, and Adaptive colour technology to deliver crisper whites and darker blacks over an extended colour spectrum.
Similar to the Surface Pro, the new Surface Laptop 7 is powered by the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors, up to 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. Microsoft claims that the new Surface Laptop 7 has the longest battery life on any Surface device – up to 22 hours on the Surface Laptop 15-inch model and up to 20 hours on the 13.8-inch model.
Microsoft also says that the Surface Laptop 7 delivers AI-enhanced sound with Omnisonic Speakers that come with support for Dolby Atmos. Omnisonic speakers are hidden underneath the keyboard, removing the need for a separate speaker grill while providing what Microsoft calls omnidirectional sound.
