ASUS has announced the TUF Sabertooth motherboard for Intel’s enthusiast-level X99 platform at CeBIT. The new board will be one of the first consumer motherboards to support Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) storage options for solid-state drives (SSDs).

As SSDs become more prevalent in consumer builds as prices come down, the Intel X99 Sabertooth board’s support for NVMe represents a step in the right direction as it will allow users to capitalize on the increased bandwidth offered by PCIe (instead of being bottlenecked by SATA 6Gbps). The new motherboard will support all NVMe storage devices, including PCIe, M.2 PCIe and the latest 2.5-inch SSDs via the mini SAS HD connector on the bundled NVMe M.2 adapter.

ASUS also joins other board manufacturers such as ASRock in bringing USB 3.1 support to its latest motherboard, with speeds up to 10Gbps for ultra-high-speed transfers. The board features ASUS’s new TUF Detective technology, which is a nifty feature that allows users to view live system information on their Android smartphone or tablet via a dedicated app when they connect it to their PC. This will give users more options when interacting with and tweaking their PC, as they can now remotely turn on, restart, clear CMOS and view voltages and live system clock speeds on their Android device.

And in keeping with its TUF pedigree, the ASUS TUF Sabertooth X99 comes with ASUS’s Thermal Armor and Thermal Radar 2 software that offers better heat dissipation and more powerful fan control with the ability to control up to 11 fan connectors. ASUS’s TUF Fortifier technology also adds to the slew of longevity-boosting features, taking the form of a hefty-looking motherboard backplate with a thermal pad that both strengthens the motherboard and channels heat away from the VRM and other critical components.

ASUS also claims to bring server-grade stability, reliability and durability with the TUF Sabertooth X99, and is prepared to back this up with the five-year warranty that we’ve come to expect from all TUF series boards. Users looking to build a system on a long-term platform like Intel X99 should be pleased with the TUF Sabertooth X99’s support for NVMe, USB 3.1 and long warranty.
