ASRock is getting in on the USB3.1 game. The motherboard manufacturer will debut its first USB3.1 boards based on Intel’s Z97 and X99 chipsets at CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. In addition to support for Type-A USB 3.1 which is backwards compatible with older USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 ports, a selection of the new boards will be the first in the world to carry USB 3.1 Type-C ports, which promises to address the perennial annoyance of plugging in USB Type-A connectors the wrong way with its reversible design.

The new Type-C ports will also support next-generation mobile devices and support data rates of up to 10Gbps and up to 3A of fast device charging. Users can now look forward to speedy transfers of gigabyte-size files and the ability to quickly charge their phone or tablet from these new ports, which are rated to withstand over ten thousand plugs and removals.

The ASRock Z97 Extreme6/3.1 will implement USB 3.1 support via an add-on card that features both a single USB 3.1 Type-A port and a Type-C port. This is in addition to features such as ASRock’s Super Alloy capacitors, chokes, MOSFETs and heatsink, a PCIe 3.0 x4 Ultra M.2 slot and four-way CrossFire and SLI.

At the enthusiast level, ASRock will show several X99 motherboards including the X99 OC Formula/3.1, X99 Extreme6/3.1, X99X Killer/3.1 and others with USB 3.1 and X Series OC Socket, which ASRock claims will boost performance of Intel LGA 2011-3 socket CPUs, increase DDR4 memory frequencies, and offer more stable overclocking.

The three X99 boards listed here will also bring onboard Type-C USB 3.1 support and include a USB 3.1 add-on card featuring two Type-A ports. On the mini-ITX front, ASRock will also roll out another world’s first in the form of an X99 mini-ITX board. The X99E-ITX/ac will offer more options for small-system builders who wish to pack as much performance as possible into a small form factor.
