Nubia undercuts its rivals with its first-ever Android tablet, the Nubia Pad Pro

It’s hard to ignore the Nubia Pad Pro when it launches with all that power and that price. #nubia #android #tablet

A new challenger has appeared. Nubia takes the fight to long-time Android tablet brands by announcing its first-ever Android tablet for the international market – the Nubia Pad Pro. In a nutshell, it’s trying to offer what some of the more powerful Android tablets have, but at half or even one-third of their price.

Here’s the rundown on what Nubia tablet has to show before we pit it against rivalling options available here.

Nubia said the Pad Pro is designed as an all-rounder performance tablet for “work, study, and entertainment,” which means that the tablet has very high hardware and software expectations to meet.

It’s helmed by a 10.9-inch TFT LCD panel, featuring impressive specs such as a 2,880 x 1,880 pixel resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate for enhanced content sharpness and smoothness. This is a pity, since an AMOLED panel with HDR support could make it more attractive as an entertainment tablet.

However, the Nubia Pad Pro makes up for it in other ways. It uses a flagship-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor along with some of the latest and fastest RAM (LPDDR5X) and storage (UFS 4.0) technologies. This means the tablet really can take nearly anything you throw at it, since the best premium Android phones from 2024 all come with the same Qualcomm mobile platform.

Enhancing its appeal is DTS X Ultra spatial 3D sound tuning for its four linear speakers, built-in 3-mic array for noise cancellation in online meetings and calls, and a big 10,100mAh battery with 66W wired fast charging.

Nubia managed to pack all that within a 7.3mm body that weighs merely 523g, and an attractive starting price of US$419 (~S$537.68) for the 8+256GB version.

Other similar Android tablets in Singapore include the S$629 Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, which has a variant chipset but features an IPS LCD panel for improved viewing angles.

There's also the S$999 OPPO Pad 3 Pro (using the same chipset with an LCD display).

If you want an AMOLED display with equivalent performance, consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+, but note that it’s more than twice the price at S$1,443.

Tablets like the Honor Pad V9, which costs more than Nubia Pad Pro, don’t have the same raw power.
