Update: Just before Google I/O starts today, Bloomberg has received confirmation from reliable sources that Google will definitely be launching a US$199 tablet made by ASUS. The affordable Nexus-branded tablet will be tasked with taking on Apple's iPad, one which is still dominating the tablet scene.

One of the biggest things expected to be announced at this year's Google I/O is a Google Nexus Tablet. According to Gizmodo Australia, the tablet -- a result of a collaboration between ASUS and Google -- has a 7-inch screen, a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a Geforce 12-core GPU, 1GB of RAM, and two storage options (8GB and 16GB). The tablet would also have NFC capabilities, just like the Galaxy Nexus phones.

Gizmodo's sources also cited the screen's resolution (1280 by 800 pixels) and display type (IPS), as well as the camera the device will sport (1.2-megapixel front facing). According to the leaked document, the 8GB model will retail in the US for about US$199 - confirming earlier allegations -, and the 16GB model will be going for US$249. As for the version of Android it will be running, the document states that the new Google Nexus Tablet would be touting Jelly Bean; the next version of Android after Ice-Cream-Sandwich.
