Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has just dropped one of the wildest rumours we've heard about Apple's upcoming iPad Pro tablets. He says there's "a strong possibility" that it'll be powered by an M4 chip.
According to Gurman, the M4 chips will feature more powerful Neural Engines, which will enable Apple's newest tablets to take on more AI tasks.
He continues by saying that the introduction of the new iPad Pro and M4 chip ahead of WWDC in June will give Apple the opportunity to "lay out its AI chip strategy without distraction".
Furthermore, it means that Apple can use WWDC 2024 to focus on how its new M4 chips and iPad Pros will take advantage of AI software and services.
Given that Apple only announced the M3 chips last October, this rumour seems highly unlikely. That said, it's hard to deny that Gurman's reasoning makes some sense. Furthermore, it would also inject some much-needed excitement into the iPad line.
The good thing is that we won't have to wait long to find out because Apple is expected to announce the new iPads next week on 7 May.
Apart from the M4 chip, the iPad Pro is also rumoured to be getting OLED displays for the first time and an updated design to the position of the FaceTime camera.
Apple is also rumoured to be launching a bigger 12.9-inch iPad Air as well as a new Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard.
We will be covering the event so stay tuned right here for the latest news.
