Apple announced the new iPad Air and iPad Pro models at the most recent Apple Let Loose event on 7 May 2024. Video editors, however, might be more interested in the software announcements made, with Final Cut Pro for iPad getting an update to Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.
In this new version, Apple has finally added support for projects on external drives. Editors can now create or open projects directly from external drives instead of wrangling footage onto the iPad beforehand. Projects can now be easily handed off to other editors or conveniently transferred from an iPad to a Mac for desktop editing.

For productions using iPhones or iPads to assist with shoots, the new Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 has a handy Live Multicam feature that allows up to four streams of video from four Apple devices to be displayed in a director's view in real-time. Settings for each stream, from focus to exposure and zoom, can be adjusted directly in the Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 app.
Editable preview clips are passed through to the app and will be replaced with full-resolution files in the background to transition from production to post-production seamlessly.

This is made possible by a wireless connection to Apple's new app, Final Cut Camera, for iPhone and iPad. This app can also be used as a standalone video capture app, and offers adjustments to settings like White Balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed, focus peaking and more.

Mac users needn't feel left out, as Final Cut Pro for Mac is also getting an update to Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8. This update includes an AI-optimised Enhance Light and Colour option that improves colour, colour balance, contrast, and brightness in a single step.
The inspector can now offer custom nams for colour corrections and effects, improving organisation and efficiency. A text-based timeline search offers information such as reel, scene, camera angle, and more.
