Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Poco, has updated its mid-range smartphone lineup with two new models, the Poco M8 Pro 5G and Poco M8, and launched them in Singapore.
Poco Global’s spokesperson, Kang Lou, said the new M8 series handsets are designed for entertainment, featuring long battery life and exceptional durability.
As a mid-range alternative to its flagship Poco F8 series phones, it’s also designed to stay affordable without sacrificing the Xiaomi HyperOS experience.
Below are both phone models, with their differences outlined.
Poco M8 Pro 5G
Poco M8 Pro 5G
The Poco M8 is the essential variant, while the Poco M8 Pro 5G offers extra trims to satisfy more discerning users who refuse to compromise on value.
The Poco M8 Pro features a 6,500mAh battery with 100W wired HyperCharge and a 22.5W reverse-charging capability to provide a small boost to your mobile accessories (such as earbuds).
In the visual department is a 6.83-inch, 1.5K resolution (2772 x 1280 pixels) AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 3,200-nits peak brightness. The display also has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support on its TÜV Rheinland-certified PWM dimming (3,840Hz). In short, nothing was spared to ensure a smooth, comfortable viewing experience during extended use.
Audio is delivered by dual 1115F speakers, capable of 4D sound and supporting Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos. Poco also cleverly gave its speakers situational loudness at 400% volume above normal. It applies only to media, ringtones, and notifications — not alarms. That’s really helpful if you are waiting for a super important notification that cannot be missed, and we’d would loved it if they swapped around its application to alarm and media (note: please do not play media loudly on public transport).
It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, which is expected for a midrange performer. It is also a little surprising to see Poco moving away from using MediaTek, as seen in the previous Poco M7 Pro 5G. Boosting its thermal performance is a real liquid cooling component called IceLoop Cooling System, to help with sustained performance during intense loads.
Photos and videos are handled by its dual rear cameras. While the 8MP ultra-wide feels basic with no extra perks, Poco gave its love to the 50MP main camera (Light Fusion 800 sensor) with OIS, pixel binning (4-in-1 Super Pixel), a low aperture of f/1.6, and 6P lens mounted.
As an Android device running on Xiaomi HyperOS, the phone gets Google Gemini and Circle To Search built in, so you’re not losing out on AI assistance where it counts. The phone has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance.

Poco M8
The Poco M8 keeps several of the Pro-tier perks, like its 120Hz AMOLED display, but trims out all the little things that bump up its price.
For example, it has the same peak brightness and PWM dimming frequency like its Pro counterpart. However, it keeps costs under control by using a smaller display size and resolution (6.77-inch, 2,392 x 1,080 pixels).
The processor is at least one grade lower and older, too, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. The battery is also smaller, with lower wired charging (5,520mAh and 45W wired), but these are still sufficient in a sea of 5,000mAh handsets.
Also, it’s rated IP65 and IP66 against dust and water, making it slightly less water resistant than the Pro, but it’s still just as durable against dust.
It also swapped out the ultra-wide for a 2MP depth camera, which assists its 50MP main (Light Fusion 400 sensor) that still has pixel binning, and a low aperture of f/1.8. Although, it’s worth noting that it lacks OIS.
The speakers still support Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio (both wireless and wired), but note that its special volume boost only goes up to 300% (still plenty).
The software side of things are identical, with HyperOS 2 and the Google Gemini perks intact.
