Nearly a year after releasing the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, Qualcomm just announced its successor – the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 brings modest upgrades. The 1+3+4 core configuration is unchanged, but there are improvements in clock speeds and the GPU. The Prime Cortex-A720 core is now running at 2.7GHz (up from 2.5GHz in the Gen 3) and there’s an updated Adreno GPU. Qualcomm claims this gives the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 a 7% boost in both CPU performance and graphics performance.

Other updates include support for ultra-wide displays up to 1,300 x 2,900 pixels at 144Hz, and a new Spectra ISP (image signal processor) capable of capturing 200MP photos or recording 4K HDR videos. There is also an improved Hexagon NPU for better AI performance, with support for Llama 1B and Qwen 1B and real-time translation.

The chip will also use LPDDR5 RAM at 3,200 MHz, UFS 3.1 storage, and support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ charging tech.

On the connectivity front, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 supports 5G with both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands, standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) modes, along with Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4.

While Qualcomm did not share a release date for the new chip, we expect the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 to appear in upcoming Android phones towards the end of the year.
