Xiaomi declares its admiration for iPhones by teasing the Xiaomi 17 series

It’s skipping a number. The upcoming Xiaomi devices are called the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

It seems like Xiaomi is ready to start 2026 on the right foot despite being more than three months ahead of everyone. According to its official brand pages and spokesperson, the 2026 Xiaomi flagship phones will be the Xiaomi 17 series.

Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max teased

This was spotted on the official Weibo account of William Lu (a.k.a. Lu Weibing), Partner and President of the Xiaomi Group, who also serves as the President of Xiaomi’s smartphone division and a General Manager of Xiaomi.

In an earlier video message, William explained that the Xiaomi 17 series consists of three models: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Longtime Xiaomi users would realise that it’s no longer calling its premium handset the Ultra.

In the same video (after the 0:57 mark), he also alluded to the iPhone 17 series, praising its launch as “outstanding” and added that they are deliberately matching the iPhone’s numeral cadence. As a result, its upcoming series will skip a number, going from 2025’s Xiaomi 15 series to the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series.

A few hours later, that video message was also followed up by a really cheeky upload — William reshared the teaser video of the Xiaomi 17 series from the brand’s official Weibo page by using his Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

In Xiaomi’s various teaser assets and materials, the Xiaomi 17 series comes with a phrase that said “launching this month” in Mandarin. We’ve also cross-checked against William Lu’s official X account, which has reshared an official Xiaomi teaser that instead hints at a 24 September 2025 announcement for the Xiaomi 15T series (flagship-lite).

Sounds confusing? While it may seem too early for the arrival of Xiaomi’s flagship phones, this actually aligns with the last two launches. Xiaomi crashed Qualcomm’s keynote for Snapdragon processors to announce the Xiaomi 14 series and Xiaomi 15 series.

It is highly likely that Xiaomi will do it again for Xiaomi 17 series, seeing how “this month” is also Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit (23 to 25 September 2025 Hawaii Time, approximately 24 to 26 September Singapore Time).

At the same time, the flagship-lite Xiaomi 15T series is due for a refresh, since the previous Xiaomi 14T series was also launched in the same timeframe as Qualcomm’s keynote.
