Xiaomi has finally announced the 14T series, and Singapore is one of the first markets to get it at launch.

As announced during its global keynote last evening (26 September 2024), Xiaomi is introducing the Xiaomi 14T and Xiaomi 14T Pro, replete with affordable features that would make even its premium flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra (review here) jealous.

Next-generation Leica optics

New to the Xiaomi 14T series is an improved AISP platform (artificial intelligence signal processor) that runs on FusionLM. With AI computational photography at play, the new T-series handsets can offer enhanced UltraHDR  and reduce noise, even in challenging lighting conditions. PortraitLM on the same AISP platform also enhances Master Portrait mode, covering focal ranges between 23mm and 75mm with detail, depth, and a natural bokeh.

The Xiaomi 14T Pro has triple rear cameras. The 50MP main uses a Leica Summilux optical lens (23mm) and a Light fusion 900 image sensor. The combination of Dual Native ISO Fuson Max, 2.4μm pixel size, and its sensor grants 32% more light captured than its predecessor. Xiaomi 14T Pro is further backed by a 50MP telephoto camera (60mm) and 12MP ultrawide camera (15mm), both also Leica-powered. It still has the Leica Photographic Styles, filters, and Leica Portrait tools that were present since the collab started.

The Xiaomi 14T keeps it simpler by swapping its 50MP main camera's sensor for the Sony IMX906 which has a smaller 2.0μm pixel size, but it's also triple rear with 50MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide, and has all the Leica optimisations like the Leica Summilux lens for the main shooter. You won't limit your verstalility by picking the Xiaomi 14T over the Pro variant, in the shooting aspect.

MediaTek leads the way

Both Xiaomi 14T and Xiaomi 14T Pro are powered by MediaTek chipsets, unlike their Snapdragon-powered Xiaomi 14 Ultra or the Xiaomi Mix Flip. Xiaomi 14T gets Dimensity 8300-Ultra while Xiaomi 14T Pro uses Dimensity 9300+.

Despite their different chipsets, both displays are of the same quality and size. They both pack a 6.67-inch 1.5K CrystalRes AMOLED (4,000-nits peak brightness, 2,712 x 1,220 pixels resolution, 12-bit colour depth). Both are also IP68 dust-and-water resistant, and use LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage for the fastest, prettiest comb.

Wireless charging now possible

The 5,000mAh batteries on both devices are par for the course, but the Xiaomi 14T gets 67W wired fast-charging (HyperCharge). For the first time in Xiaomi's T-series, the Xiaomi 14T Pro gets wireless charging at 50W, on top of a faster wired charging rate of 120W HyperCharge.

AI for all

Not wanting to lose out on the race towards AI features, the Xiaomi 14T series gets a comprehensive suite of AI features that should be familiar to those who use Google's Pixel AI or Samsung's Galaxy AI. They are:

  • Circle to Search
  • Google Gemini (pre-installed as an app)
  • AI Notes, AI Intrepreter, AI Recorder, AI Subtitles, AI Film, AI Image Editing, and AI Portrait

Other deets

Both phones are Dual-SIM compatible, with support up to Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC.
