During Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite’s reveal at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 keynote, Xiaomi stopped by to announce their next-gen flagship phone series, again. This time, it's the Xiaomi 15 series.
Xiaomi walks out to the front of the stage like a boss, knowing how well it has paid Qualcomm for an advanced order of Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platforms before this keynote. Photo: HWZ.
Adam Zeng, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Group (also the President of the International Business Department, Xiaomi), said that the Xiaomi 15 series phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile chipset platform across the whole series and that more launch details will be shared towards the end of October 2024.
As two China journalists said while HWZ sat in front: "What? 100 billion? Chey, it's in RMB". Photo: HWZ.
This was similar to last year’s Snapdragon keynote, where Xiaomi also crashed the party to announce that they are using Qualcomm’s flagship-tier chipsets for their previous flagship phones, the Xiaomi 14 series (you can read our Xiaomi 14 Ultra review here).
Again, like last year, few details were shared beyond a launch date, although it was interesting that end-October 2024 was its "global launch" and not a China-only release.
The "global debut" is due end of October, so we'll see how long more it takes before it actually comes to Singapore. Photo: HWZ.
However, Xiaomi did claim that the 15 series has a 29.7% decrease in power consumption for “full-frame” intensive gaming and that the phones will use Xiaomi HyperOS 2, an upgraded Android reskin that has even deeper integration with Qualcomm’s AI smarts.
We guess we’ll only know more about the Xiaomi 15 series at the end of this month, so stay tuned.
