The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) just announced that Qi v2.0 is coming soon.

In a news release, the WPC says the first Qi v2.0 certified products will be available in time for the holiday season starting with the Apple iPhone 15 and several power transmitters.

In other words, this makes the Apple iPhone 15 lineup the first Qi v2.0-certified phones.

When the iPhone 15 lineup was announced in September, Apple did not specify the charge rates the iPhones would support on Qi2. This has since been clarified in a statement by Apple to The Verge that the iPhone 15 supports Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W on a Qi v2.0-certified charger.

The WPC also shared that over 100 devices are currently in testing or in the certification testing queue. These devices include those announced by Belkin, mophie, Anker, and Aircharge.

Qi v2.0 was unveiled earlier this year and it is built on Apple's MagSafe technology. The WPC states that Qi v2.0 will enable the development of faster wireless charging while ensuring the process remains safe.

There is also the hope that Qi v2.0 will lower the costs of wireless chargers for consumers since it is an open wireless charging standard and no longer exclusive to Apple.
