The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced at CES 2025 that consumers can expect an acceleration in adoption of Qi2 standard among Android devices this year, which include Samsung and Google.

In its news release, WPC states that Samsung Galaxy devices in 2025 will support Qi2. This implies that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series will support the wireless charging standard. Leaked images of rumoured official Galaxy S25 cases appear to confirm this.

Google also stated its commitment to the Qi2 standard and pledged to "increase the penetration of Qi2 into Android handsets and other devices". The company is also involved in the development of the Qi v2.2 standard. Is this a hint that upcoming Pixel devices will also support Qi2?

When the Pixel 9 launched in August 2024 without Qi2 support, Google defended its decision by saying that "there are no tangible benefits to switching to Qi2".

At the moment, the HMD Skyline is the only Android phone that supports Qi2. Apple supports Qi2 on the iPhone 13, 14, 15 and 16 series. It remains to be seen whether other major Android phone makers such as Xiaomi, Honor and Oppo will adopt Qi2.
