When Qi2 officially arrived in the market late last year, the Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro were the first phones to support the new wireless charging standard.
Now, with the launch of the Skyline, HMD can claim the honour of having the first Android phone with Qi2 wireless charging support.
Besides Qi2 wireless charging support, HMD claims the Skyline can last up to 48 hours on a single charge and maintain at least 80% of its original capacity after 800 full charging cycles.
What's even more interesting is the fact that the 4,600mAh battery can easily be replaced by the user. As the first phone to feature Gen 2 repairability (the company's own branding for the phone design), HMD says it only takes a few steps to remove the back cover to access the battery for replacement.
The user-friendly, repairable phone design also enables users to fix bent charging ports, scratched back covers, and change the screen panels all on their own.
Another interesting feature of the Skyline is something called Detox Mode, which lets users select specific apps and contacts to block if they need to disconnect from the digital world.
In terms of performance, the HMD Skyline is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 mobile platform with 8GB and 12GB RAM configurations and Android 14.
The screen is a 6.55-inch FHD+ pOLED display with support for up to 144Hz refresh rates and 1,000 nits of peak brightness.
On the back is a triple-lens system consisting of the primary 108MP camera with OIS, a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera. The HMD Skyline has a 50MP autofocus front-facing camera with eye-tracking focus for sharp selfies.
Other specs include support for Bluetooth 5.2 with LE audio, NFC support, USB Type-C, 256GB/512GB of internal storage space with microSD card support up to 512GB, two years of OS upgrades, three years of security updates, 5G connectivity, and a side power key which can be customised by holding it down once or double pressing it.
Availability and pricing
The HMD Skyline is priced at £399.99 (~S$696) for the configuration with 8GB memory and 128GB of storage. It is £499.99 (~S$870) for the configuration with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage.
We don't know yet if it'll be available in Singapore, but we'll update this article when and if we know more.
