Samsung registers Galaxy Iris and Galaxy Eyeprint trademarks

Samsung has recently registered trademarks for Galaxy Iris and Galaxy Eyeprint in the U.S, the European Union (EU) and South Korea. Will devices with iris-scanning technology hit the consumer market this year?

With fingerprint sensors becoming the norm these days, Samsung is moving ahead of the competition by investing in another biometric authentication - iris scanning technology. Samsung and LG were said to be introducing iris-based authentication systems on their smartphones as early as this year with the Wall Street Journal claiming that Samsung was considering a retina scanner for some versions of the Galaxy S7

Samsung could very well be preparing to launch a device with iris-scanning technology as it has registered trademarks for Galaxy Iris and Galaxy Eyeprint in the U.S, the EU and South Korea. It is noteworthy to mention that Samsung's previous trademark applications such as Always On Display, Apps Edge, Galaxy S6 and S6 edge turned out to be actual devices and features.

Will the Galaxy Note 6 be equipped with an iris scanner? Well, we will know in mid-August when Samsung is rumored to be launching the Galaxy Note 6 in the U.S.
