If you haven’t heard, the beta version of One UI 7 is now available in other markets. In its earlier announcement, Samsung already shared some of the important features of the refreshed operating system reskin.
Now, Samsung has shared more details about those changes and how they affect users, which we found helpful for new or longtime users of One UI.
Personal Data Engine
Samsung's Personal Data Engine is a significant shift in its privacy approach. In summary, Samsung moved personalised data to a secure space managed by its Knox Vault (part of the Samsung Knox encryption and security package). Biometric data and other sensitive information are now more guarded, with on-device and cross-app data protection.
Personal Data Engine also deploys “post-quantum cryptography” for its encryption, which is generally known as encryption that’s resistant to cryptanalytic attacks by quantum computers.
What’s coming later for Now Bar
Samsung's new One UI 7 interface features Now Bar (pictured above), Samsung’s take on Dynamic Island notifications first seen on Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro series phones.
Now Bar offers live notifications and acts as a shortcut to the most frequently used actions for the user’s most used apps, straight from the Lock Screen. Samsung gives examples such as controlling entertainment apps and keeping time on workout apps or using it to make an overseas trip smoother with relevant pop-ups for flight details, weather, and even music.
Samsung also claimed that Now Bar is “the next evolution of Galaxy AI, " implying that the live notification feature also use AI tools to make recommendations and create insights on your One UI 7 device.
That said, some of the new One UI 7 features require Samsung Account login, and we’re sure many more will be introduced at the upcoming Samsung Unpacked 2025 keynote, scheduled for January 2025.
