The wait for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is over. Its official announcement is today (23 January 2025).
The Galaxy S25 series — which includes the base Samsung Galaxy S25, the larger Samsung Galaxy S25+, and the stylus-enabled Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — has doubled down on its Galaxy AI and Google Gemini AI-powered features, as well as a bunch of crucial hardware upgrades that change the experience of these time-honoured devices.
One UI 7 is central to the Samsung experience
Google Gemini, Samsung's Galaxy AI, and a whole bunch of other software changes make up One UI 7.
One UI 7, the Samsung-made coating and reskin for its Android 15 operating system, now comes with many upgrades in many places to help refine the mobile AI experience brought about by the previous generation of Galaxy S phones.
These upgrades are both on Samsung’s end and are additions to Google’s Gemini-based AI tools.
Circle To Search by Google now recognises phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, and other context-aware information. This means you can call or message people or visit websites by using the same circling gesture. In fact, it can do much more as demonstrated in this video below:-

The context-aware searching also extends to basic phone instructions using natural language. Users can search for photos in Samsung Gallery or change settings by simply asking the phone.
Most of these features are accessible by asking Gemini (press and hold the side button). It is compatible with third-party apps (like Spotify) and Samsung—and Google-made apps.

Productivity tools also got an upgrade. Call Transcript and Summary are now available, and Writing Assist works in apps where you can highlight text (there is no need to move to the Notes app anymore).
These include previous announcements about One UI 7, such as its Now Bar and Now Brief. Now Bar actively tracks running apps to offer live notifications and a shortcut on the Home Screen, while Now Brief provides summaries of the user’s day based on the apps were whitelisted for those updates.
Security and privacy gone quantum

The exponential increase of AI tools and features meant Samsung needed even stronger ways to help users keep their data secure. All personalised data on the Galaxy S25 series are kept inside Knox Vault, which isolates passwords and uses digital credentials (passkeys).
Other changes include the introduction of post-quantum cryptography (encryption that’s resistant to cryptanalytic attacks by quantum computers), the blockchain-based Knox Matrix, and a drastic Maximum Restrictions feature that lets you block 2G mobile services and reconnect to Wi-Fi networks for your safety.
Hardware perks

No Galaxy upgrade is complete without some form of hardware components refresh.
Singapore’s Samsung Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra will all get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a custom version of Qualcomm’s premium flagship chipset for 2025 Android phones.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S25 series has a 40% increase in NPU performance, a 37% increase in CPU performance, and a 30% increase in GPU performance compared to the previous generation. They also added ProScaler, an AI image processing feature that improved display image scaling quality by 40%, up to QHD+ resolution.

Samsung said the chipset's cooling solution now has a 40% larger vapour chamber to improve its thermal efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Ultra uses “durable titanium” and a new glass-type by Corning, Gorilla Armor 2.
The devices all come with seven years of OS upgrades and security updates.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's ultrawide camera has been upgraded from 12MP to 50MP. Interestingly, that’s the only known Utra perk announced at the keynote, as the rest were perks for the whole Galaxy S25 series.
The phones get Virtual Aperture, which is found inside the Samsung camera app Expert RAW. Samsung also now offers Galaxy Log, a colour grading option for professional video production.
10-bit HDR recording is now applied by default across the entire Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung's Portrait Studio, the AI-generated selfie feature, has also been improved to produce “more true-to-life facial expressions.” Check it out in action here:-

For audio editing, Samsung has finally brought its own version of Audio Eraser, similar to Google Pixel’s Audio Magic Eraser. Samsung users can choose between removing of voice, wind, music, nature, crowd, and noises, letting users completely eliminate or boost those sounds. See it in action here.
