Samsung and Oppo sued in China for loading devices with too many non-removable software
The Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission has sued Samsung and Oppo for loading their devices with too many pre-installed and non-removable apps.
Reports from Shanghai say that the Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Commission has sued both Samsung and Oppo for loading their devices with an excessive amount of pre-installed and non-removable apps.
In a study of 20 smartphones, it was found that Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 and Oppo's Find 7a were the worst perpetrators. The former came with 44 apps installed, while the latter had a whopping 71 apps.
The commission says that doing so infringes on consumer's rights as they take up storage space and could potentially also eat up data plans.
In addition, the commission is calling for a new ruling which would make it mandatory for manufacturers to clearly label included apps on the packaging and also provide clear instructions on how to remove them.
