Huawei unveils big plan to roll out bi-monthly firmware updates for its phones
Aside from the announcement of a bi-monthly firmware update schedule, Huawei will also roll out an update which includes face recognition to some of its phones.

Android OEMs generally do not have a good track record of updating their devices to the latest firmwares, but Huawei is planning to change that.
The Chinese phone maker has announced an ambitious bi-monthly firmware update schedule for the P, Mate and Nova series. In addition, the first update scheduled for next month will come with a face unlock option which complements the current password and fingerprint authentication methods. The bi-monthly firmware updates (including the Face Unlock update) will roll out to the P10, P20, P20 Pro, Mate 9, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, nova 3e, nova 2 lite and nova 2i.
It remains to be seen whether Huawei can walk the talk. Several Android OEMs promised regular monthly security and firmware updates for their phones in the aftermath of the StageFright hack where more than 1.4 billion Android devices were left vulnerable, and another serious security flaw which could put Android devices into a completely unresponsive state.
However, it seems that Google is the only company that kept to its promise. HTC is more transparent about its firmware update policy; the company admits that it is "unrealistic for anyone to say guaranteed every month" yet it "will push for them". The Dutch consumer watchdog sued Samsung in 2016 for failing to provide sufficient information to consumers about its software policy and leaving consumers' devices vulnerable to critical security flaws.
