Apple could be partnering with Baidu to power some of its AI features on the iPhone.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports that Apple has held preliminary talks with Baidu to use the latter's generative AI model to power some upcoming AI features on the iPhone

The partnership with Baidu is likely to help Apple get local regulatory approval to use generative AI models on the iPhones sold in China. Meanwhile, Apple is also reportedly discussing with Google to use its Gemini engine for the same purpose.

If the reports are true, we would see a situation where Apple uses two different generative AI models to power AI features on the iPhone and other devices in China and other countries.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company is "excited to share the details" of its ongoing AI work later this year, which is likely to be at WWDC 2024 in June. The iPhone maker is rumoured to preview an enhanced Siri with generative AI at the annual conference.
