Apple is going to make its future products the thinnest and lightest in their respective categories.
Apple's new design strategy for its future products could be thin and light according to Bloomberg.
Mark Gurman wrote in his latest Power On newsletter that the Apple iPad Pro (M4) marks the start of a new range of Apple devices that aim to be "the thinnest and lightest in their categories across the whole tech industry."
Gurman added that Apple is working on a significantly thinner iPhone for 2025, which corroborates recent reports of a slimmer iPhone 17 model. The new design direction will also be extended to upcoming MacBook Pro and Apple Watch models.
Apple's previous attempts at going super thin for its products did not turn out well. Starting with the iPhone, the iPhone 6 Plus was plagued with bending issues that users dubbed it "bendgate". The 2018 iPad Pro also suffered from similar issues, though to a lesser extent.
Apple had its fair share of problems with thinner MacBooks too. To achieve a thinner form factor, Apple sacrificed all the ports that professionals used extensively and introduced a faulty butterfly switch keyboard design that resulted in class action lawsuits.
However, the positive reviews of the iPad Pro (M4) show that Apple has perhaps figured out how to slim down its devices without any compromise on performance, usability, and durability.
