Huawei’s second trifold phone packs stylus support, upgraded ultra-wide cam, and comes in new shades

It also comes with a slightly lower price tag. What a pleasant surprise.

Huawei just announced its second trifold phone, the Mate XTs, making it the first smartphone brand to have two devices in this category.

Unlike its predecessor (Mate XT), the Huawei Mate XTs comes with stylus support. The Huawei stylus supports air gestures and doubles as a presentation control button.

On the camera front, Huawei upgraded the ultra-wide camera from 12MP to 40MP. The 50MP primary and 12MP telephoto cameras are unchanged.

Powering the device is the 7nm Kirin 9020 chip, which was announced late last year and is also found in the Pura 80 series. It ships with HarmonyOS 5.1.

Beyond these hardware improvements, most specs remain the same as the Mate XT: a 10.2-inch display that folds once into a 7.9-inch screen and twice into a 6.4-inch screen, a 5,600mAh battery, 16GB of RAM, and three internal storage options (256GB, 512GB and 1TB).

Availability and Pricing

At launch, the Mate XTs is only available in China, with pre-orders starting today and deliveries beginning from September 12. Huawei also introduced two new colourways (white and purple) alongside the red and black options. Retail prices are as follow:

  • 16GB + 256GB - 17,999 yuan (~S$3,250)
  • 16GB + 512GB - 19,999 yuan (~S$3,610)
  • 16GB + 1TB - 21,999 yuan (~S$3,970)
  • 16GB + 1TB (with stylus) - 22,499 yuan (~S$4,060)

Though priced slightly lower than the S$3,600 Mate XT, the new trifold is still priced beyond the reach of the average consumer.
