Huawei to unveil its second triple-folding phone on 4 September

Nearly a year has passed since Huawei unveiled the Mate XT, the world’s first triple-folding smartphone.

Huawei Mate XTs invite

Huawei is ready to unveil its second triple-folding phone.

The Chinese company announced on Weibo that it will hold a launch event on 4 September at 2.30 pm SGT to introduce the Mate XTs.

If that date sounds familiar, it’s because Samsung is holding its own event on the same day later in the afternoon.

Huawei did not reveal any details of the Mate XTs, and only shared this extremely secretive render.

As the successor to the Mate XT, the new device is rumoured to feature an upgraded Kirin 920 processor, satellite connectivity, a new 50MP primary camera with a variable aperture lens, and an enhanced periscope telephoto camera. The Mate XTs is also expected to carry the same price as its predecessor: ¥19,999 (~ S$3,660).

The first two weeks of September are shaping up to be a three-way tech clash; Samsung has scheduled its Galaxy event on the same day, while Apple follows just five days later. All three phone brands will be competing for media attention with these back-to-back launch events.
