Nexus devices to get Android's new emoji next week

Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android tweeted that new emoji will be coming to Nexus devices via a system update next week. Non-Nexus devices will be getting the emojis from the OEMs in their respective software updates in future.

More than a month after teasing Android users that new emoji were on the way, a senior Google executive has confirmed that they will arrive next week.

According to the tweet posted by Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, new emoji along with a new keyboard, font, code and system image will be issued to Nexus devices next week. Google has also shared the "fonts and tech details" with OEMs to include in their future updates.

Google's latest move comes two months after iPhone users received over 150 new emoji characters in the iOS 9.1 update.
