The emoji war is about to begin with Android working on its own emojis

Hiroshi Lockheimer, who is the SVP of Android, tweeted that the team is working on new emojis. This could be in response to the latest Apple's iOS 9.1 update where there are over 150 new emojis.

Apple released iOS 9.1 a few days ago which brought over 150 new emoji characters. Seeing how their iOS peers got new emojis to use in chat conversations, Android users started providing feedback to Google to do something. Guess what? The Android team is doing something!

According to a tweet posted by Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, the Android team is working on it. He did not provide a timeframe as to when Android users will get new emojis, but it is a hint that the feedback from users was substantial enough for the Android team to notice.
