Apple just seeded the release candidate version of iOS 18.2, which means public availability is imminent.
Although Apple didn’t say when the public release would be, if all goes well, iOS 18.2 could be made publicly available sometime next week.
With iOS 18.2, users can look forward to the next salvo of Apple Intelligence features. Although Apple Intelligence was officially available in late October, Apple didn’t make all its features available at launch. This next iOS release will see features like Image Playground, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and more, being added.
To recap, Image Playground is Apple’s image generation app. Like other image generation apps, users can create an image by describing it using words or using the app’s prompts. But unlike other apps, Image Playground only creates animated-style pictures so they could never be mistaken for real.
Genmoji is like Image Playground but for emojis. Essentially, it lets users create their own emojis straight from the iOS keyboard. This can be useful if you can find the emoji that you want to use.
Another eagerly anticipated feature that is coming in iOS 18.2 is Visual Intelligence. If you click and hold the new Camera Control button while pointing at an object or location of interest, Apple Intelligence will automatically fetch information about it. For example, using Visual Intelligence on a restaurant might show you its opening hours and reviews. Using it on a bicycle might show you how much it is and where you could purchase it.
iOS 18.2 also adds other Apple Intelligence features like on-device categorisation of emails, updates to the Safari app, integration with ChatGPT, and more.
