The big news at Apple’s WWDC 2024 was surely the unveiling of Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI features.
However, don’t expect all of Apple Intelligence’s features to be available at launch. As mentioned in the keynote, Apple Intelligence will be coming to users “in beta” first as part of the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia this fall. Apple also said that some features will be coming out “over the course of the next year.”
Although Apple didn’t specify which features would be available at launch, reports say that features like systemwide Writing Tools, transcription capabilities, and Math Notes will likely be available at launch.
More advanced features that are contextual in nature like the revamp of Siri, personal context, and onscreen awareness, however, will likely take longer to implement. Some of these features will probably require cloud processing, and Apple is said to still building up its Private Cloud Compute facilities.
To recap, Apple Intelligence will be available for free this fall as long as you update to Apple’s newest OSes. In addition, it's compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and any iPad and Mac powered by the M1 chip or later.
