Apple's future smart glasses are likely to be powered by a version of visionOS

Codenamed "Atlas", Bloomberg claims Apple is developing a version of visionOS to work on smart glasses.

The Product Systems Quality team at Apple are also conducting user studies "to gauge the appeal of features and interfaces".

While Apple is working on a version of visionOS to run on smart glasses, the company thinks the hardware won't be ready for at least another three years. Still, given the fantastic (curated) experiences we've had, visionOS on smart glasses could really help the platform gain mass appeal even though the experience and capabilities are likely to be different from a full-fledged Vision Pro headset.

Bloomberg reported in August 2024 that Apple is still in the experimental stage and exploring concepts similar to the Ray-Ban | Meta Smart Glasses.

In the meantime, Apple plans to release a more affordable Vision Pro. It could launch as early as this year

In addition, Apple is said to have approached Sony last year to build support for the PlayStation VR2's hand controllers on the Vision Pro.
