Apple is said to be working hard to make its Vision Pro headset more appealing to gamers.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to support third-party hand controllers in a future VisionOS update. Additionally, Apple also discussed this initiative with third-party developers to build support for third-party hand controllers into their games.

More importantly, Apple reportedly approached Sony earlier this year and both companies agreed to work together to include support for the PlayStation VR2's hand controllers on the Vision Pro.

Apple and Sony were believed to have plans to announce this partnership several weeks ago, but it has been delayed. Bloomberg claims this could be because the PlayStation VR2 hand controllers are currently not sold as a standalone accessory.

In order for the hand controllers to work with the Apple Vision Pro, Sony has to reconfigure them to work independently of the PlayStation VR2. As part of the agreement between the two companies, the hand controllers would be sold at Apple's online and retail stores.

Much work lies ahead for Apple and Sony to expand the functionality of the hand controllers beyond games. Bloomberg says the hand controllers are now being worked on to navigate the VisionOS interface.

Bloomberg added that "fewer than half a million units" have been sold and a large number of users are not using the Vision Pro as much as Apple wanted them to. Perhaps the focus on gaming along with financial incentives for the top game makers to develop apps could revive interest in the Vision Pro.
