After weeks of teasing, it's finally here: Google has officially unveiled Android 5.1 Lollipop. The new release addresses some issues with the 5.0 version of the OS, while adding a handful of new features that will help improve user experience.

For starters, users with dual-SIM devices, such as the Xiaomi Mi Note or ZTE Blade 6, will now be able to more easily switch between which card is in use without having to physically swap SIM cards.

Android 5.1 also introduces the ability to connect to Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices directly from Quick Settings and higher-quality High Definition voice calling will also be available for all Android 5.1 devices

The biggest new feature is hopefully one you'll never need to use: beefed up security for lost or stolen devices. In Android 5.1, Device Protection will require a sign-in with the original Google Account, even after a device has been factory reset. In other words, a thief can't simply wipe the storage on your phone and sell it off. This feature will be available on the Nexus 6 and 9 to start, but will be included on other devices shipped with Android 5.1.

So, when can you get Android 5.1? According to Android Police, the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 (2013) may see updates today. As for everyone else? Many other Android vendors are still finishing their 5.0 rollouts, so it might take a while before they catch up.
