Sitex 2014 highlights
Sitex 2014 will be held from 27 to 30 November at Halls 5 and 6 of the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Center. Doors will open from 11am to 9pm daily; and as always, admission is free. With over 500 brands expected over the 20,000 square meters of the exhibition halls, Sitex is the place to be at this time of the year if you want to fulfill your home entertainment, lifestyle electronics, office equipment, and travel technology shopping needs.

Without further ado, here are the latest gadgets and deals that caught our eye at the show floor.
AC Ryan
The Veolo 4K comes with a 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex-A17 ARM processor, Mali T-764 3D GPU, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and 16GB of flash storage. To watch your 4K files, the player is equipped with H.265 hardware decoding capabilities and HDMI 2.0 video output. The Veolo 4K runs Android 4.4 KitKat OS, and sports built-in gigabit Ethernet, dual-band Wireless-N and Bluetooth 4.0. Grab it at $199 (usual price $299).
Acer
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is one of the most affordable hybrid systems at the show. It's powered by an Intel Atom Z3735F processor (1.33GHz) and also has 2GB of RAM, 32GB eMMC, and 500GB HDD storage. It is going for just $499 (U.P: $799).
Aftershock
We previously had a look at Aftershock's S-15 notebook, but back then it only had the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M. The one at Sitex contains an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M, which makes it an even more enticing deal. Sitex also marks the first time the Hypergate and the Tremor are on sale. We've previously talked about both, but given a choice, the Hypergate is a better deal.
The Aftershock S-15 has an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (4GB DDR5), 1TB HDD with 128GB SSD, Windows 8.1, 15 inch display (Matte AHVA, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). We previously had hands-on with the S-15 when it was using NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970M and found out that it was a great gaming PC. Now that it’s fitted with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980M, it’s even better. It’s going for $2,707 at Sitex, down from its usual price of $2,942.
The Aftershock Hypergate is one of Aftershock’s first desktop designs. It features an Intel i5-4590 processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4GB DDR5), 1TB HDD (7200 rpm) with 120GB SSD and Windows 8.1 (64-bit). Like all of Aftershock’s designs, it is customizable and is going for $1,753 for the basic model.
Alcatel
Alcatel Onetouch, one of Europe's leading mobile phone manufacturers has come to Singapore, and is using Sitex to debut a few phones.
The Alcatel Pop D3 looks and feels a lot like an early iPhone. This 4-inch smartphone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and is powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz processor. It can be yours for just $95, exclusively at the SingTel booth. Or get two for $95 with the purchase of a SingTel pre-paid sim or top-up card (limited to 1st 10 customers).
The Alcatel Pop S9 is one of the most affordable 4G LTE phablets on the market. The S9 has a 5.9-inch HD display and is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor. It is available at the M1 booth for just $338, and the first 20 customers will also receive a free Alcatel Gecko power bank.
Alienware
Alienware had an event earlier before Sitex opened where it treated members of the press and select guests to a private showcase of the Alienware Area-51 and Alienware 13.
The Alienware Area-51 is a desktop machine which has two variations, one with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 in SLI and another with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan Z. Both feature the newly released DDR4 RAM modules. The specs are similar with both systems having an Intel Core i7-5820K processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB HDD (the Titan Z model also has a 128GB SSD) and of course, the new Triad design. It’s $4,999 for the Titan Z version and $3,999 for the one with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 SLI.
The Alienware 13 is a gaming notebook with an Intel Core i5-4210U processor, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M (2GB DDR5), 1TB (5400 rpm) HDD, and a 13 inch display (IPS, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). What makes it special is that it can be docked with an optional device called the Graphics Amplifier to deliver even more power for the hardcore, similar to MSI’s GS30. It’s going for $1,999.
Apple
The iPad Mini 3 is slimmer, lighter and more powerful than the old iPad Mini, and it now also comes with a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Pick up a 16GB WiFi model from Nubox for $548 and receive a free case, screen protector and 5,200mAh power bank. Or buy any other model and get a case, screen protector, 10,400mAh power bank and iPad stand.

ASUS
We've talked in great detail about the ASUS ROG G751JY-T7128H in a previous article and from how much we liked it from our hands-on, it's really impossible not recommend it as one of the best deals of the show.
We’ve had hands-on experience with the G751JY and were much impressed by it. One of the best gaming notebooks for this year, it Intel Core sports an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (4GB DDR5),1TB HDD with 128GB SSD, Windows 8.1, 17 inch display (IPS, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). Going for $2,898 and is bundled with ROG Headset, mouse, and backpack.
The new Zenbook UX303 is powered by a dual-core Intel Core i7-4510U processor (2GHz) and comes with 8GB RAM and a 750GB SSHD. It is also powered by a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT840M mobile GPU. This model is currently going for $1,698. A lower spec model with integrated graphics is going for $1,098.

The ASUS Fonepad 8 is an 8-inch HD tablet with full telephony capabilities. Powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3530 1.3GHz processor with 1GB RAM and running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the FonePad 8 does it all for just $299.
ASUS one of the leading names in home networking and the recently reviewed RT-AC87U is the company's latest high-end flagship router. This new router provides up to 1.7Gbps of bandwidth on its 5GHz band. The only downside is that you need a compatible client to take advantage of its high speeds.
The ASUS RT-AC87U is one of the fastest routers in the market right now, supporting speeds of up to 2,400Mbps on its dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It is going for $379 and comes with free ASUS Cerberus gaming headset and McAfee Internet Security.
If you think you can do without Wireless-AC, the RT-N66U is a high-end Wireless-N router that offers up to 900Mbps on its dual frequency bands. It is going for $199 and comes with a free 16GB USB flash drive and McAfee Internet Security software.
Aztech
The new FG7008GR is Aztech's latest and fastest router and supports up to 2,400Mbps on its dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It is priced at $329.
BenQ
The XL2420Z/XL2720Z are two 1080p gaming monitors that sport a variety of ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, VGA), adjustable stand and viewing angles, as well as low input lag, and a 144Hz refresh rate. The 24-inch one goes for $588 while the 27 inch one goes for $688.
At $188, the BenQ GL2460 is one of the cheapest 24-inch, 1080p monitors at Sitex. It even comes with free $30 worth of shopping vouchers. While it does have D-Sub and DVI inputs, it doesn't support HDMI. For that, you can look at the GL2460HM, which goes for $218. For this HM version, you get a free HDMI cable as well as the shopping vouchers.
Bose
The Bose SoundTrue In-Ear headphones (for iOS) are going for $199 normally, but if you get a pair, you can have 2 for $338, a $60 savings for these headphones that use StayHear ear tips for optimal fit and maximum comfort.
Brother
The Brother MFC-L2740DW is a monochrome multi-function printer that can print, scan, fax, and copy. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet. It also comes with a 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) and a 250-sheet standard paper tray. With a print speed of up to 30ppm, you can grab it for $398 (usual price $448) and it comes with a $30 shopping voucher and a ream of A4 white paper.
The Brother MFC-9330CDW is a color LED multi-function printer that can print, copy, scan, and fax. It has a print speed of 22ppm for both mono and color. Wireless, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet are all supported. It also comes with a 35-sheet ADF and a 250-sheet paper tray. Save $100 and grab it for $598 from Sitex 2014. It also comes with a $50 shopping voucher and free delivery.
Canon
The newly launched EOS 7D MKII 20.2-megapixel APS-C DSLR is on promo at Sitex. Comes with $140 shopping vouchers, a 32GB SD card, 5 Million Dollar Crumpler bag, AS28L dry cabinet, LowePro backpack, LED light, Crumpler camera strap, quick strap, rig and cleaning kit. Starts from $2,499 (body only).
The SX700 HS is a 16.1-megapixel point and shoot camera that features 30x optical zoom and Full HD movie recording. This goes for $449, with two 8GB SD cards, a card reader, and a screen protector, as well as $35 in shopping vouchers.
They didn’t quite have this on display yet, but the EOS 6D is a 20.2 megapixel camera that goes up to ISO 102,800, with Wi-Fi, and built-in GPS. You can get this with the EF 24-70 f4 L IS USM lens for $3,599 and top up an additional $50 to receive two 16GB SD cards and the EF 40 f2.8 STM lens. That’s in addition to the tons of free gifts, including $210 shopping vouchers, 32GB SD card, 5 Million Dollar Crumpler bag, EOS guidebook, AS31L dry cabinet, Matin backpack, LED light, Manfrotto tripod, Crumpler camera strap, and cleaning kit.

The Canon Pixma MX927 is a all-in-one printer with a 35-sheet ADF, and has auto duplex print and copy. With a 250-sheet paper tray, it has both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity too. You can take it home with you for $319 (usual price $369), as well as a free Targus backpack (worth $100) and a trolley (worth $13).
The Pixma MG6470 is a wireless photo printer that has auto duplex. It supports Wi-Fi, AirPrint and also comes with five individual ink cartridges. Save $50 and get it for $149. Free gifts include a Targus backpack (worth $100), a trolley and two packs of glossy photo paper (60 sheets in total).
The Imageclass MF8580Cdw is Canon's laser mutifunction printer. It sports an ADF, Wi-Fi support, and auto duplex print. The ADF holds up to 50 sheets, and the printer has a print/copy speed of 14ppm. Save $420 and get it for $679. It comes with $150 worth of NTUC vouchers, black toner worth $200, and free delivery.
Casio
Casio’s running a bit of a unique promotion this time, where instead of determining what free gifts you get with your purchase, every purchase you make gives you points that you can then use to make your redemption of choice from their catalogue (top left of picture). Items range from camera bags to card readers to Casio’s own standard keyboards.
The 14.0 megapixel EX-FR10 is still going for the regular price of $699, but you get a $200 Best Denki voucher, a free 8GB microSD card, and the FR10 hard case, which is a pretty good deal for this modular point and shoot camera.
A 12.1-megapixel camera, the EX-10 features a 4x optical zoom and wireless connectivity. It’s going for $699 after instant redemption of $200 in Best Denki vouchers and a special show discount. It also comes with one free 8GB SD card, a case, and a cleaning kit and $200 off when you trade in your old camera. The 200 Casio points you get can also be used towards a 25L dry cabinet and a tripod, making it a pretty good deal overall.
Cooler Master, CM Storm
For the Devastator membrane gaming keyboard & 2,000dpi mouse combo, the keyboard is backlit and has shortcut media keys. The mouse has multiple DPI modes (1,000, 1,600 and 2,000) and can be toggled via a switch. It’s not meant for the hardcore but as far as for entry level gaming, you could do much worse. Going for $49, usual price is $69.
The SF-17 notebook cooler is a notebook cooler meant for large laptops. Although smaller ones can be used on it as well, the fit won’t be as snug and the airflow might not be optimal. It has a strong 180mm fan, can be adjusted to four different angles, has grooved sides for cable routing and has its own USB 3.0 ports. If you’re gaming on a notebook, this is one of the best coolers you can get. It’s selling at $99 with a free ROC tablet stand.
Creative
As we mentioned in our preview article, the SoundBlaster X7 will up for sale for the very first time at Sitex 2014 for $499.
As always, bundles galore for the Sound Blaster Roar. Get a Creative Sound Blaster Roar and the Creative Woof Micro Wireless Speaker for just $215 under the Roar Killer Deal 2, or look to the Best Of Both Worlds Killer Deal which gives you a Sound Blaster Roar, the Sound BlasterAxx AXX 200, and the N100 ultra-portable speaker for $299.

D-Link
The DIR-880L is D-Link's newest flagship router and offers speeds of up to 1900Mbps on its dual 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. It also comes with D-Link's suite of cloud applications. It is available for just $199 (U.P: $369) at the show.
Need help keeping an eye on your precious one? Check out D-Link's DCS-825L Wi-Fi baby camera. It comes with sound and motion detection and D-Link's Mydlink baby app to let you monitor your child from your smartphone. It is priced at $159 (U.P: $239).
Dell
The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 is a no-frills 15-inch notebook that is powered by an Intel Core i3-4005U processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD and integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400. It is priced at just $699.
It's hard to miss Dell offerings if you're looking for a monitor at such shows. For an affordable 21.5 or 23-inch, 1080p monitor, you can consider the $189 S2240L or the $199 S2340L. If you're looking for 24 inches, the S2440L goes for $229. All comes with 3 years of advanced exchange warranty.
At the Alienware Competition Area, we spotted this 34-inch Dell UltraSharp U3415W curved monitor. It has a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels and a brightness of 300cd/m2. HDMI 2.0, MHL, and mini-DisplayPort are all supported. However, it's only at Sitex as a showcase piece. It'll start selling in stores in December. Price is unknown at the moment.
Epson
The Epson L555 comes with built-in Wi-Fi and an ADF. It uses Epson's ink tank technology, with low cost ink bottle replacements. It can print, copy, scan and fax. Receive a $20 NTUC voucher and a free trolley, when you purchase the L555 at $359 (usual price $399).
If you don't need an ADF, there's the Epson L355. It uses the same ink tank technology as the L555 for cost savings, and comes with two additional black ink bottles in addition to the $20 NTUC voucher and free trolley. The Epson L355 goes for $299 (usual price $329).
Fujifilm
The Fujifilm X-M1 is going for $799 with the kit XC16-50mm lens, and the show special of the XF27mm f/2.8 prime, the XC 50-230mm telezoom. a free 16GB SD card, and a jacket case.

Fuji Xerox
The DocuPrint CM215 fw is a color multifunction S-LED printer that can print, copy, scan and fax. With 12ppm for color documents and 15ppm for monochrome documents, the CM215 fw comes bundled with DocuWorks OCR software. With built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet support, save $220 and get the CM215 fw for $429. The printer also comes with free $40 NTUC vouchers.
A mono multifunction S-LED printer, the DocuPrint M255 z can print, scan, fax and copy. With a print speed of 30ppm, the printer is also capable of automatic duplex printing and comes with free DocuWorks OCR software. Grab it for $249 (usual price $399) and get free $20 NTUC vouchers.
Gigabyte
The Gigabyte P35X V3 is a beast of a machine and can easily go toe to toe with some of the beefier gaming machines we’ve featured. It sports an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (8GB DDR5), 1TB HDD (7200 rpm) with a 256GB SSD, and a 15 inch QHD+ display (3,200 x 1,800 pixels). It’s only going for $3,899, down from its usual price of $4,299.
HP
The HP Slate7 VoiceTab Ultra is a tablet with full telephony capabilities. It boasts a 7-inch Full HD display, and is powered by a Cortex A9 quad-core 1.6GHz processor running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean upgradeable to 4.4 KitKat. It is available at HP's booth for $499, and comes with a free case worth $59.
Looking for a funky AIO system? The HP Envy Beats 23 might be just what you are looking for. It has a 23-inch Full HD display and is powered by a 1.9GHz Intel Core i5-4460T processor and comes with 8GB of RAM, 1TB SSHD, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and Beats audio. It is priced at $1,599.
The HP Stream 13 might just be the most affordable notebook at the show. It is going for just $349 and has a 13.3-inch 1366 x 738 pixels display. It is powered by a 2.16GHz Intel Celeron N2840 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
We wrote up a short piece about HP's Omen gaming notebook back when it was announced and Sitex is the first time the Omen will be available locally.
The Omen notebook has an Intel i7-4710HQ processor, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M (4GB), 512GB SSD, and a 15 inch display (IPS, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). It’s selling for $3,399 and if you get it at Sitex, it comes with a HP Slate Extreme tablet, HP Omen mouse and a backpack. The Omen is the only gaming notebook we saw on the floor that has 512GB SSD, which makes it an easy recommendation if you’re looking for speedy storage with the hardware to back it up.
The HP Officejet Pro 8620 is HP's star buy as it can scan, copy, fax and print all for the price of $399 (usual price $449). There's built-in Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet support. With a scan resolution of 1,200 dpi, the Officejet Pro 8620 also has a 30,000 page-per-month duty cycle. You also get a free $100 CapitaVoucher, a free HP black ink cartridge (worth $37.70) and a HP power bank.
The HP Officejet Pro X576dw might be pricey, but if it's speed you're looking for, then the X576dw is a model you should consider. With print speeds of 42ppm in both mono and color, it may even rival some laser printers. It's now going for $1,349 (you save $1,046). It comes with a free HP XL CYMK ink cartridge worth $728.20 and a HP Slatebook10.
Jabra
The Solemate Max is heavy duty portable speaker that's weather-proof and pumps out big sound. This is going for $298, down from the usual price of $428.

JBL
The Harman-Kardon GO+Play Wireless Speaker usually retails for $595, but is now going for $299 at the Epicenter booth.This modern-day boom box connects to your smart device via Bluetooth for wireless music streaming while boasting enough power to get your entire home jumping.
Kingston
Need to buff up your smartphone or tablet's storage? Grab a Class 10 Kingston microSD card for $6.90 (8GB), $9.90 (16GB), $19.50 (32GB), or $41.50 (64GB).
Klipsch
Do have a look at the stylish Image One Bluetooth headphones by Klipsch if you're at the show. They're now going for $313, a 15% discount from the regular price of $369.
Lenovo
Looking for an ultra-light and portable Ultrabook? The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro might just be what you need. It is powered by Intel's newest "Broadwell" Core-M5Y70 processor and comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The 13-inch touchscreen display has a native resolution of 3,200 x 1,800 pixels. Prices begin at $2,299 for the 256GB model mentioned above. A model with larger 512GB SSD costs $2,599.

The Lenovo Vibe X2 is the world's first layered smartphone, resulting in a funky multi-colored design. The 5-inch Full HD smartphone is powered by a MediaTek 6595m octa-core 2.0GHz processor and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. You can pick one up from Epicenter's booth for $438 (usual price $488) and you'll also get a free 2,600mAh power bank.
LG
The LG G3 features a 5.5-inch QHD 2,560 x 1,440-pixel resolution display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz processor. It has rear positioned buttons for easier one-handed navigation (essential for a phone this size) and a 13MP rear camera with laser-assisted auto focus. Pick one up from Starhub for $149 (usual price $199) when you sign up for a 2-year 4G 4 contract ($62.90/month). You'll also get a free LG Tone Pro bluetooth headset and a slim card case (total worth: $216).

Logitech
This Logitech FabricSkin bluetooth keyboard for iPad Air is amazingly lightweight and doubles as a stand for your iPad. It's also waterproof allowing for easy cleaning. Available in a variety of colors from Epicenter's booth for $139 (usual price: $189).
The Logitech G19S keyboard features 12 fully programmable keys, customizable backlight, GamePanel LCD, and six-key anti-ghosting (no missed inputs). It’s available at $209, $90 off its usual price and it comes with freebies too!
The G27 racing wheel and pedal with gear shifter module is one of the best racing wheels you can get, with metal construction and leather grips. You can use it on the Xbox One and PC but not on PS4, so take note. $359 at Sitex, $429 normally.
M1
Sign up for any M1 fibre broadband plan, starting from as low as $29/month and top up for an Acer laptop.
Microsoft
If you have an Xbox 360 or Xbox One, you’ll need an Xbox Live subscription to play online and now’s the best time to get one since you get two free games (Max: Curse of the Brotherhood and Zoo Tycoon) with every purchase of a subscription card.
The Xbox One may not be the leading console in the world now but the deal it has is too good to pass up if you’re looking to buy one. Get the Assassin’s Creed bundle (contains Assassin’s Creed Unity and Black Flag and also Dance Central Spotlight) and you get a free extra controller with it; and if you get a Xbox Live subscription card together with your console, you also get the seminal Halo: The Master Chief Collection for free and Max: Curse of the Brotherhood and Zoo Tycoon (games from the Xbox Live promo).
MSI
The GE60 2PG 638SG Apache has Intel Core i7-4710MQ processor, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M (2GB DDR5), 1TB HDD (7,200 rpm), Windows 8.1, 15-inch display (LED backlit, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). If you’re on a budget looking for a decent gaming notebook, the GE60 2PG 638SG Apache is a great choice. You get a free MSI DS100 mouse if you get it at Sitex. It’s on sale for $1,699, down from its usual price of $1,799.
GT72 2QE 278SG Dominator Pro has an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (8GB DDR5), 1TB HDD (7,200 rpm) with 256GB SSD , Windows 8.1, 17-inch display (LED backlit, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels). The Dominator Pro is the machine you need if you want devastating power without caring about a premium price tag. This is bar none, one of the beefiest (if not THE beefiest) notebook of the year. It’s selling for $4,299.
Netgear
The Netgear Nighthawk X4 is the company's newest flagship router and offers speeds of up to 2350Mbps on its dual bands. That aside, it also comes with two USB 3.0 ports and a single eSATA port for attaching printers and external storage devices. It is priced at $469.
If you have lots of devices, the Netgear Nighthawk X6 might be a more prudent choice as it is a tri-band router, broadcasting a single 2.4GHz and two 5GHz networks. It is going for $399 (U.P: $459) at the show.

Nikon
The Nikon D7100 is a 24-megapixel APS-C camera that comes without an optical low-pass filter for maximum resolution, and is now available for $2,089 with the 18-105 VR DX lens. Also included at the show are a free trolley hardcase, a tripod, a spare battery, one Nikon tumbler, a free camera bag, one dry cabinet, one free 16GB SD card, and a 32GB SD card. There’s also free umbrella, tote bag, and $150 of Takashimaya vouchers available for collection at Nikon’s redemption center.
Otherwise, if you’re looking for a full-frame camera, the Nikon D750 comes with a free trolley hardcase, a tripod, a spare battery, one Nikon tumbler, a free camera bag, one dry cabinet, one free 16GB SD card, and a 32GB SD card. Priced at $3,079 (body only).

This Philips 272G5DYEB is a 27-inch full HD monitor with a brightness of 300cd/m2. Samsung's 2013 4K TVs, the F9000 series, are on offer at Sitex. If you don't want to wait for it to be back in stock, you can pick up the Xiaomi Redmi Note at Sitex. The 5.5-inch HD phablet runs on MIUI V5 (based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean) and is powered by a MediaTek MT6592 octa-core 1.7GHz processor. Available at J&W Premium for $249. (In other words, it's not officially from Xiaomi.)
