TSMC, the world's biggest contract chip manufacturer, is reportedly feeling the strain to meet the insane demand from Apple.

TSMC CEO C.C Wei revealed in a call with analysts that customers' demand for its 3nm chips exceed the company's ability to supply. Analysts interviewed by EE Times claim TSMC's tool and yield issues have affected the chipmaker's efforts to ramp up mass production.

At the moment, analysts estimate production yields to be around 55% for the Apple A17 and M3 chips. TSMC is said to be on schedule to improve yields by 5+ points in the coming quarters.

Apple's A17 and M3 chips will be built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process. These new chips will be used in the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and new Mac devices.

TSMC is already planning ahead for 2nm chips. It is estimated to begin production of 2nm chips in 2025.
