Samsung announced a new Galaxy Trade-In Program today (14 January 2025), which changes how Samsung users can trade in their Galaxy devices.
The new trade-in program allows users to trade in Galaxy devices on the Samsung Online Store at any time of the year. These users do not need to purchase a new phone to do so.

For a start, eligible models are:
- Samsung Galaxy S23 series
- Samsung Galaxy S22 series
- Samsung Galaxy S21 series
- Samsung Galaxy S20 series
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3
The eligible models would vary by country.
A key perk of trading in at any time is the chance of a higher trade-in value, especially since older models tend to lose more trade-in value with each new launch.
However, the announcement doesn't state whether trade-ins offer credits in kind, whether they expire, or whether they can be used across different product categories (e.g., trading in tablets to buy phones later).
It's also unclear if the trade-ins are subject to the condition of the old device, although Samsung claimed this program was an effort to "contribute to a circular economy." Old components can be broken down for reuse if the device is primarily intact, but our dealings with trade-ins have conditioned us to believe that scuffed handsets would fetch lower trade-in values than those that look brand new.
Galaxy Trade-In Program availability
Samsung said the Trade-In Program will start in Korea and France today and expand to more territories throughout 2025. We’ve contacted Samsung Singapore to see if it is also updating its existing Trade-In arrangements to a year-round version.
Currently, you can view the Korean version of the Galaxy Trade-In Program on its website here (but it is not updated as of publishing).
