MSI has finally made its GT75VR Titan laptop official. We first got a look at it at Computex 2017, but MSI is now properly announcing the notebook, complete with model names for the different configurations.
The 17.3-inch laptop will be available in three flavors:
- MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan SLI
- MSI GT75VR 7RF Titan Pro
- MSI GT75VR 7RE Titan
This is one of those notebooks that seem like they’re going all out to replace your desktop. Standout features include its 1,920 x 1080-pixel 120Hz display with a 3ms response time and 10GbE Ethernet, the latter of which is supposedly a world’s first for a laptop.
Alternatively, you can opt for a 3,840 x 2,160-pixel IPS panel with 100 per cent coverage of the Adobe RGB color space.
You can opt for either a 120Hz FHD display or a 4K IPS panel. (Image Source: MSI)
The Rapid mechanical keyboard by Steelseries boasts per-key RGB backlighting with up to 16.8 million colors, and you can customize it using MSI’s Dragon Center app or the Steelseries Engine utility.
The switches are Kailh low-profile models, which come complete with a transparent housing to allow the RGB lighting to shine through.
The three laptop models differ mainly in terms of their graphics configuration. As its name suggests, the Titan SLI comes with two NVIDIA GeForce 1070s in SLI, while the Titan Pro and Titan will have a single GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 respectively.
This amount of performance comes at a price, and you’ll be far happier leaving these laptops sitting on your desk instead of trying to cart them around. However, the additional power means that the Titan SLI is thicker and heavier than its siblings, measuring 58mm thick and weighing 4.73kg. In comparison, the other two models are 31mm thick and weigh 4.565kg.

That said, all of them feature an overclockable Intel Core i7-7820HK processor (2.9GHz, 8MB L3 cache), up to 64GB of DDR4-2400 RAM, and up to two PCIe M.2 SSDs in RAID 0.
To keep all that hardware running cool, MSI has gone with a whopping 12 heat pipes on the SLI model (10 heat pipes on the non-SLI editions) and dual Whirlwind fans, one each for the CPU and GPU. MSI says that the SSDs have been embedded with thermal paste as well as using thermal pads on the drive surface, in order to help with heat dissipation as much as possible.
The GT75VR 7RE Titan retails here for S$5,899 with 32GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPU, and a FHD 120Hz screen. You can also check out our hands-on article for a closer look at the laptop. In fact, the laptop made a silent debut here at the recent Comex show.
