The new MSI GT75VR Titan is gamer's dream notebook.
No fancy VR backpack this year, MSI is returning to its gaming roots by announcing not one but three new gaming notebooks at Computex 2017. The highlight of the trio has got to be the all-new GT75VR Titan. It’s powerful and chock-full of features that are sure to delight gamers.
The GT75VR Titan is MSI's newest desktop replacement notebook and it doesn't disappoint in terms of specifications and features.
Let’s begin with the display. The GT75VR Titan comes with a 17.3-inch display and gamers can choose from the three following options.
- Full-HD TN panel display with a blistering 120Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time
- Full-HD IPS display
- 4K UHD display that supports 100% of the Adobe RGB color space.
As for the processor, users will be pleased to know that the GT75VR Titan is equipped with Intel’s high-end quad-core Core i7-7820HK (2.9GHz, 8MB L3 cache) processor and can be spec’ed with up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM.
According to MSI, the processor can be easily overclocked to 4GHz thanks to MSI’s latest cooling system called MSI Cooler Boost Titan. MSI Cooler Boost Titan is easily one of the most elaborate cooling systems we have seen in a notebook. It features dual fans that have special “whirlwind blades” that is said to increase air pressure by up to 30%. Next, it has a whopping 12 heat pipes, which helps dissipates heat better. And finally, the CPU and GPU will each have their own cooling module. The end result is that under load, the GT75VR Titan will run about 10° Celsius cooler than other comparable notebooks.
An elaborate cooling system helps keep the GT75VR Titan cool and improves overclocking performance.
Graphics firepower will come exclusively from NVIDIA and users can choose from a single GeForce GTX 1070, a single GeForce GTX 1080, or dual GeForce GTX 1070 in SLI.
As for storage, users can opt for MSI’s Super RAID 4 storage configuration, which includes two super-fast NVMe-compliant PCIe 3.0 x4 in a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration and a separate 2.5-inch HDD. So, as you can see, the GT75VR Titan is no slouch at all when it comes to performance.
Unlike the GT80, the GT75VR Titan's mechanical keyboard is in a more traditional position. The palm rest is also slightly raised for better typing comfort.
Performance aside, the GT75VR Titan also comes with a SteelSeries mechanical keyboard. This isn’t the first MSI notebook to have a mechanical keyboard, but the layout of the keyboard in the GT75VR Titan is more pleasing. The palm rest is also slightly raised to make typing a little more comfortable. For fans of bling, the keyboard also features RGB lighting that can be tweaked and customized on an individual key level and to your heart’s content.
Each key's backlight can be customized.
MSI did not specify what switches were used, but they felt stiffer than your typical Cherry MX Red and Black. Another thing we noticed was how fast the RGB lighting reacted to our inputs.
The GT75VR Titan is certainly not thin.
MSI’s didn’t disclose the dimensions nor weight of the GT75VR Titan, but it is definitely not a notebook that you want to be carrying around all day. Because of the mechanical keyboard, the overall thickness is likely to be around 30mm to 40mm, and the weight will almost certainly be around 3.5kg or more. That said, it does look less bulky than the MSI GT80, which also has a mechanical keyboard.
Price and availability have yet to be disclosed, but don’t expect it to come cheap. To give you some idea, a decently decked out MSI GT80 from 2015 was over $4,500.
