Looks like the rumours of Huawei’s triple-folding smartphone making its way outside of China is coming true.

According to Huawei Central, the Huawei Mate XT was recently granted TDRA certification by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities and appears in the TDRA’s database.

The TDRA (Equipment Registration) is the UAE’s equivalent of Singapore’s Telecoms Licensing System, which is found in IMDA’s Equipment Registration. Before offering and selling telecommunications devices in the UAE, they must be registered and approved within the TRDA.

The device's model number is GRL-LX9; its registration number is ER41137/25. It’s also expected to be mostly identical to the Chinese-only version, components-wise.

Registering the sale of a device with a telecommunications authority usually indicates that the brand expects to bring said devices to the territory to sell, and for both mainstream and business use.

It’s hard to forget a triple-folding smartphone when it’s the only commercially mainstream one, but here's a recap in case you need it.

Huawei Mate XT was launched in September 2024 in China as part of Huawei’s ultra-high-end collection called Ultimate Design (the Huawei Watch Ultimate sits here, too).

Emphasising its ultra-premium positioning is Huawei’s celebrity ambassador choice for the product: Andy Lau. Coincidentally, he’s what the BBFAs inside HardwareZone Forum’s EDMW sub-section envision themselves to be, so we must say Huawei was on the mark for this choice.

The phone boasts a folding display that can be unfurled like a byōbu (a Japanese folding screen that acts as an indoor wind wall and space separator). It works like most book-style foldable and normal smartphones when folded (6.4-inch). You can open and get an extra third pane for its 7.9 inches of tablet-like viewing experience.

The device's estimated retail price is S$3,660, based on its China launch prices after factoring in currency conversion rates at the time. The top-end model with 1TB storage is expected to retail for ~S$4,400.

There were also rumours (that sounded like blind hope, at best) saying that the Huawei Mate XT might see a global launch in Q1 2025. The latest development (registering the device for sale outside of China) meant that those rumours might come true, after all.
