Apple reportedly halted plans to buy flash memory chips from China's Yangtze Memory Technologies Co (YMTC).

According to Nikkei Asia, several sources claim tighter U.S export controls imposed on the Chinese tech sector led to Apple putting its plans on hold.

Apple initially planned to buy 128-layer 3D NAND flash memory chips from YMTC for use in the iPhones sold in China, and wanted to increase the order up to 40% of the chips required for all iPhones.

YMTC is now being investigated by the U.S Commerce Department for alleged sales of chips to Huawei. The U.S blocked Huawei's access to overseas chip manufacturers in 2020 as intelligence agencies believe Huawei is funded by the Chinese state government.
